Driving your sub

Stealth is an important factor for a sub. Therefore try to be as silent as your mission goals permit.
Keep you speed low (about 3knts) and hide under the thermal layer. Don't use your active sonar unless you really know what you are doing. But use all your passive sonar devices (bow, hull and towed array) extensively.
Check your narrowband often - it may already see a contact that is not visible on broadband yet. If the environment permits hide close to the ground or behind underwater hills. (btw: your sub can stand 2000 ft). If you go down very slowly you can avoid the hull's compression noise.
Upgrade your sub with the points from the single players missions. If you use the same sub for multi you'll have all your improvements.(If you use a different sub for mp find out how to change your sub without loosing upgrades on the 688 Utility page)

Shoot and Run

If you start close to your opponents it is usually a good idea to fire your torpedoes early, don't waste too much time on TMA. When you fire an ADCAP make sure you set the floor and ceiling values right. There is nothing more annoying than a target at 900 ft and your torpedo circling above it at 800 ft.
Also don't close the tube's door after you fired - you would loose wire guidance. It is a good idea to fire torpedoes from a different layer than your target's (you find that info on the map in weapons screen). This might delay the detection of your torpedo, especially if you delay enabling the ADCAP until it is already close to its prey.
If getting fired at and you have a spare ADCAP: return the compliment with a snapshot - that may keep him busy. Then try to move away from your current position fast. Slow down from time to time to check for the torpedo's position on sonar.
If an active fish has acquired your sub (you can tell by its pings getting louder and faster) change your course and depth drastically and drop decoys. Keep in mind that there may be passive torpedoes out there which won't ping at all but just home on your noise.
